It's easy to moan about the bad times we live in and to say that there is no chance to change things because everything is connected worldwide.

BUT...all of us can make contribute to a better world by only changing little things in their everyday lives.
Inspired by the project "We Are What We Do" we have started to publish our own ideas how to change things for the better.
Here you can find the ideas of the BOS I 10 at the David-Roentgen-Schule, Neuwied.

Economize your car

In times where economic fuel consumption and environmental protection have become more important than ever, here are a few tips to get your cars fuel consumption down and do your wallet a favour!

Most people do not know, that there is a lot unnecessary fuel consumption through wrong tire pressure! Check your cars manual to find out, which is the correct pressure and then adjust the pressure. In the most cases, the pressure WILL be wrong because almost nobody cares about it!

At next, you should ensure that you do not carry things unnecessary around in your car. That means that you should remove all things from your car, that are not bolted on unless you know you will need it. (Except first aid kit and breakdown triangle of course!)

You should often check the fuel consumption: If there is a big change in a short time period, maybe something is wrong with the motor management. At least, this can damage your engine severly and is bad for the environment, too! So if there is any doubt, please get the engine checked by a service point in order to save money and do something for the environment at the same time!

Mount summer tyres early enough: In the spring, when temperatures become stable at 8°C or more, you should change to summer tyres, because using winter tyres at warm temperatures will definitely rise your cars fuel consumption.

At least, please avoid unneccesary driving around! If there is no good reason (transport of heavy things, very long way to go), you should consider to not use the car in order to do something for the environment and your car, too! Short distances not only can damage an engine, but are bad for the environment too, because an engine uses a lot more of fuel while warm up and on short distances, engines do not warm up enough to reduce fuel consumption on short distances!

With these few tips, money saving is as easy as it could be and always remain: It is good for the environment!
